Financial Planning Week through the eyes of a consumerFreelance writer Jo Middleton attended a session in advance of the week, and wrote about it afterwards on her
Slummy Single Mummy blog to let consumers know what to expect. She highlights that "Financial Planning Week is for everybody", not just wealthy clients. "In fact," she says, "if you don’t currently have much in the way of savings or retirement plans then all the more reason to take up the offer of a free session."
Jo's FaceTime session with Andrew Elson CFP™ Chartered FCSI and Sarah Elson CFP™ APP Chartered MCSI at Berry & Oak left her feeling "much more motivated" about her finances, and she "came away with some really practical, tangible next steps". These are outlined in detail on her blog, and include:
- A change of mindset towards a more long-term financial view
- Focusing on one financial target at a time
- Setting up a dedicated savings account
- Checking that pension funds are suitable and performing as they should be
- Downloading a money management app
- Checking details of insurance policies
- Writing down financial priorities and target dates for savings, and making a list of everything that needs to be done to achieve financial goals
Jo's session left her feeling reassured that, with "just a few tweaks and updates", her financial future is looking "half decent".
